In the sun-rich foothills of Mendoza province, the newly completed Anchoris Solar Farm is more than just a 180 MW array of panels: it is a statement of intent. By delivering 497 GWh annually to major industrial clients, this $160 million project demonstrates how private investment, modern construction practices, and targeted market frameworks converge to reshape the nation’s energy mix. Furthermore, its rapid execution signals to domestic and international stakeholders that Argentina can deliver large-scale infrastructure on schedule, even amid economic challenges.

The construction of Anchoris also involved laying over 40 km of new high-voltage power lines. The site connects to existing 500 kV transmission infrastructure. Local engineering and construction firms installed panels, inverters, and built security access.

The farm’s completion means Argentina can rely more on local sunlight rather than imported fuel. It boosts national energy security while creating jobs in manufacturing and construction during the build phase.

Two more Genneia projects – the 180 MW San Rafael solar farm in Mendoza and the 130 MW San Juan Sur solar farm – are slated to come online by 2026. Together, these will bring Genneia’s regional solar total to nearly 800 MW and raise its overall renewables capacity to over 1.7 GW by 2026.

Across Argentina, renewable capacity is surging. Under the country’s 2015 energy law (27.191), total operational renewables recently surpassed 7,133 MW. Wind power accounts for about 60% of that, while solar provides roughly 27%.

Even with new projects coming online, the share of electricity delivered from green sources hovers around 16 – 17%. Industry experts say that pace needs to accelerate. “It was a remarkable surge in a very short time,” said Héctor Ruiz Moreno of Argentina’s Wind Chamber. He referred to the rapid installation growth in recent years.

To meet national targets of 20% renewables by 2025, more grid upgrades and financing will be required. The Anchoris project helps address these goals by boosting intermittent generation near load centers. These private investments complement public-sector infrastructure. The Argentine government maintains incentives like tax breaks and priority grid access for renewables under Law 27.191. There is also momentum on the transport side: provinces are rebuilding roads and expanding port facilities to handle equipment deliveries. Tens of thousands of tons of steel for panel mounts and electrical cable have poured into the country.
