Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King emphasized the project’s regional significance, stating that “each and every flood event at this crossing impacts both residents and businesses – sometimes for days on end. With Moreton Bay experiencing rapid growth, this project will deliver much-needed flood immunity and cater for increasing volumes of traffic on this stretch of road.”
Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg reinforced the state government’s commitment, explaining that “we’re committed to delivering the vital transport infrastructure communities across our state need to ensure safety, reliability, and connectivity. Part of the upgrade includes improvements to the Dayboro Road intersection, which includes boosting its turning capacities and the inclusion of additional lanes, new cyclist and pedestrian facilities and safety improvements.”
City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery described the project commencement as “an historic day, with the countdown to the 2027 opening of the new four-lane bridge and road officially underway. This is what happens when all levels of government work together for their communities.”

Seymour Whyte, the project’s principal contractor, brings extensive experience to this complex infrastructure undertaking. Will Macdonald, Northern Region General Manager at Seymour Whyte, outlined the company’s commitment to minimizing community disruption during construction. “We’ll be implementing detailed management plans to minimise noise, dust and vibration; undertaking vegetation works with care and in line with environmental requirements; and maintaining two-way traffic on the existing road alignment during peak periods wherever feasible,” Macdonald explained.
The contractor’s approach emphasizes careful coordination between construction activities and community needs, with detailed staging plans designed to maintain traffic flow during peak periods while accelerating progress during off-peak hours.
Financial Structure and Investment Profile
The project’s funding structure demonstrates unprecedented collaboration between multiple government levels. The Australian Government has committed $51.6 million, representing the largest federal contribution to regional infrastructure in the Moreton Bay area. The Queensland Government has provided an additional $15 million in state funding, with the City of Moreton Bay contributing the remaining project costs.
